§ 2.36. Municipal court and judge.

  • There shall be a court for the trial of misdemeanor offenses known as the municipal court, with such powers and duties as are defined and prescribed by statute. The presiding officer of said court shall be known as the judge of the municipal court, and shall be appointed by the city council, and shall be a qualified voter of the city, and shall hold his office until removed. The municipal judge shall have the power to administer oaths, give certificates and keep the records of municipal court. The city council, by ordinance, may provide for additional associate judges and temporary or relief judges, as authorized by V.T.C.A., Government Code § 29.007, and as hereafter amended.
