§ 78-31. Political activities of employees prohibited.
(a)
Under this article, it shall be unlawful for employees in the classified service while in uniform or on active duty to take an active part in any political campaign for an elective position of the city. The term "active part" includes making political speeches, passing out cards or other political literature, writing letters, signing petitions, actively and openly soliciting votes and making public remarks about candidates for such elective positions.
(b)
In addition to such fine or imprisonment provided under V.T.C.A., Local Government Code § 143.016 of the civil service law, any willful violation of this section shall be sufficient grounds to authorize the discharge of any employee in the classified service.
