§ 66-34. Power and authority.

  • (a)

    Carrying firearms. An appointment to the police reserve force must be approved by the governing body before the appointed may carry a weapon or otherwise act as a peace officer. After the appointment is approved, the person appointed may carry a weapon only when authorized by the chief of police and only when discharging official duties as a peace officer.

    (b)

    Authority. After the appointment is approved, the person appointed may exercise full powers of a regular police officer, at the discretion of the regular officer to whom the reserve is assigned.
