§ 2-190. Purposes of board.

  • The parks advisory board shall make recommendations to the public works director, the city manager and city council regarding policy matters pertaining to the parks and recreational activities of the city. The parks advisory board shall have the following specific purposes:

    (1)

    Promote and stimulate public interest in events and programs related to recreation and leisure activities of the city.

    (2)

    Review and make recommendations on recreational programs and events for the city.

    (3)

    Review and make recommendations for the efficient and full utilization of the parks and recreational programs of the city. In this connection, such recommendations shall consist of planning, equipping, beautifying, improving, developing, maintaining and operating programs for the parks, community forest and recreational programs.

    (4)

    Review and make recommendations on matters when requested by the director of public works, city manager and/or the city council.

    (5)

    Organize volunteer groups for conduct of events under the direction of the director of public works.

    (6)

    Develop and maintain a parks and recreation master plan and program for the city.
