§ 2-241. Creation; composition; appointment of members.

  • (a)

    There is created and established a zoning ordinance steering committee which shall consist of seven voting members who shall be selected as provided in section 6.6 of the City Charter. One voting member shall be a resident of each city council district, and shall be recommended to the mayor by the councilmember representing that district. One voting member shall be chosen at large.

    (b)

    There shall also be five non-voting members. Each non-voting member shall represent one of the following groups, be nominated by that group, and then appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the city council:

    (1)

    Planning and zoning commission;

    (2)

    Zoning board of adjustments and appeals;

    (3)

    Main Street advisory board;

    (4)

    Historic landmarks commission;

    (5)

    City council.

    (c)

    Members of the committee shall serve without compensation but may be reimbursed for expenses if approved in advance by the city manager.

    (d)

    Members shall continue to act after the end of the term until a successor is appointed and confirmed.

    (e)

    A member of the committee may be removed from his position at any time by the mayor, subject to the approval of the city council.

    (f)

    The committee may elect a secretary or other officers from its membership or may request the city secretary to serve as secretary or appoint a member of the city staff to serve as secretary.
